A while back I did a post on Board Track Racers, Interesting bikes ridden by mad men on slippy wooden tracks in the early part of the last century sort of sums up what it was about. I came across this
blog, which shows the interest in the board track bikes, and the velodrome pacer bikes, is alive and well.
Also noticed this on their site, a Harley Davidson fore and aft boxer twin, a bike I never knew they built.....
Wouldn't ya like to stumble across one of those in a barn. The late great local Triumph/BSA shop owner Joe Sarkee had one of the WW2 vintage Harley 'boxer' opposed twins with side to side cylinders. He had modified the flat head engine by grafting BMW OHV top-ends to it. I've been trying to locate a picture of it for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI used to think all the interesting barn finds had been found, it doesn't seem to be the case with some of the "found" bikes that I've seen come to light in the last year, so there is still hope for us Larry. Hope you manage to find a photo of the bike.
ReplyDeleteThose bikes look so cool, but I can't imagine what it was like to race on those tracks.
