LOL....I actually saw a Velosolex at this bike knackers place....I had a cameraphone at the time and did take a pic, but couldn't upload to pooter....since been lost due to newer phone at the time.
My mate had a Velosolex a few years ago now. He didn't look at all cool on it. Because it's technically a motor vehicle the law made him wear a m/c helmet when he rode it, which got him some very odd looks indeed, he said.
The only Velosolex I've seen was sometimes in the 70s, it used to sit at the side of a house on my route to school. Was always going to knock the door and ask about it, but never did.... I see that you can still buy them, I think the links up to date?, click title as usual.
I remember in the 70s, there was a company in Edinburgh that rented out Velosolexes. It was funny watching tourists trying to ride on the cobbles on a Solex with no suspension!
Larry, think theres always a market for basic transport (can't be muck more basic than one of these), but what kills it in the UK is, as Mike says, the law. If like some other countries you could just jump on and ride like a bicycle i think we'd see more here in use.

ReplyDeleteGood ol' Steve McCool. Must be a good design if they continue making it.
