Thought it was time I got back on my blog. I think having been unable to get on for a while had sort of knocked the wind out of the sails so to speak, but hopefully know I can get back into it.
So what's this about a BMW, well its not mine, it belongs to a mate who has just bought it unseen off ebay. Its a 1974 R75/6 has been off the road since 1979 and hasn't been run, I think, since 1980. I had been over during the week for a quick look over and noticed the fuel taps were solid, so he ordered a new pair of them and had them fitted by the time I arrived today. A quick check of the oil, looked new, plugs out and a turn over to get the oil round, also checked for spark. Put some fuel in, taps on, choke on, turn it over and it fired up, but only on one cylinder. A quck look in the tank answered the question, the tank has a centre and when the fuel was put in ( a couple of litres) it had went to the one side, so with the funnel pointing to the empty side another few litres went in. This time it was firing on both and really sounded good, no strange noises. Only problem was the left hand carb flooding, a job for later....
Well the plan is to give the bike a good check over and replace bearings, seals and what ever needs done. I hope to do the odd post on the project as we work our way through it, roll on January....
