Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza 2011

I hadn't heard of Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza show before, its held just outside Melbourne (Australia) over the easter weekend. I only came across it will looking throught the ADVriders site and spotted a post about it. It's not just a static Classic bike show, it has bikes running on the Motocross, Speedway and Road track.
I'd like to thank Richard for letting me use his photos, cheers

Scottish Bike Show 2011

Bit late with this, but I've been busy......

This is year 6 for me being at the Show as part of the Z1oc. There was a bit of a change for this year as Dougie and Paula who organised the Classic section, for as long as I can remember, had to stand down for personal reasons. Geogre Beer of the VJMC took over the running of the Classic show at a late stage, but managed well, and most people would say his ideas worked well.

It was the usual Friday of the show for me, day off work and head over to Edinburgh to help set up the Club Stand. When I say set up I meant place the 6 bikes on the carpet area, this year was very low key, no walls to put up info boards or posters, just nice bikes to look at.

I had one bike on the Club Stand, the Racecrafters Kawa, and another as a private entry, the wee 250 Moto Morini.
After all the hard work was done it was off round the main hall to have a look at the modern bikes, cause when Saturday morning comes the next free time we'll have is 5pm Sunday.

Up bright and early Saturday morning and get ready to go, but whats all this white stuff falling from the sky, bloody SNOW again! So into the tin box and head off along the motorway, no signs of snow ploughs going our way , but with a bit of care we got there.

First things first it was time for a coffee and blether with some of the mates before Joe public started coming in. As expected with the weather the hall wasn't too busy in the morning. Managed to spot Mr Combo(Ed of the MZ Thistledown news letter)for a blether, which lead to meeting MuZ660 and a very interesting talk with him. Time was passing and hardly a Kawasaki word had been spoken, lol. The crowds started to increase, and it was into Kawa mode now.... so many questions to answer and how to do this and that... but that's why people visit the stands.

A welcome break came in the shape of Norman from the MZ Skorpion forum (as is MuZ660), was good to get 10mins to catch up. Also thanks to Norman for the use of his photos.

I managed a wonder through the main hall to see what the modern biking world was up to. Of the bikes the KTM 1190 RC8 and the BMW HP2 Sports really caught my eye. The KTM for how simple and funchinal looking it was, the BMW for the quality of its engineering and the way they made a Boxer Twin look so good!!

As I usually find the time at the show flies in, like most good things, and Sunday night was here all too quick, the vans loaded up and time to go for another year...

Almost forgot to say the two of the bikes on the Club stand won awards, Kaths Z1000A2 (top pic left hand side) got 3rd in class, and my Racecrafters won Best Special :-)

Thanks to Andy (Z1oc) and Norman for the use of their Pics

Vintage Flat Track Races

Vintage Flat Track Races, swap meet, and vintage bike show at the Wilson County Fair Grounds in Middle Tennessee

This event was put on by a local promoter and is the first short track race he has done. It was $15 to get in as a spectator and while I would have been happier at $10 it was ok. There was a decent crowd gathered in the stands but not that many booths in the swap meet and not all that many bikes in the bike show either. There were a couple really nice bikes present though. The track seemed short, really short. I talked with a couple of the racers who said they just had far to much motor for the track. When the bike was not bucking up on them it was spinning the tire down the straights. It was dusty and dry as well. They had to spray things down a couple times.
Thanks to Jason F for the words and pics from http://www.sohc4.net/

CMM Stafford Show 2010

The Stafford Show in October is the one you've got to visit if you're into bikes from the 60s to the 80s. Although there is a large percentage of Japanese bikes, there is usually a good mix of Italian, British and "other" Continental bikes.

This visit was a bit lazy as all I do was drive down in the tin box, as my bike was taken down by my mate Fer in his van. In past years its been finish work empty van, load up with bikes and club stuff, then head down the road.

The main attraction for us Kawasaki nuts this year was the guest of honour Eddie Lawson, AMA Super bike champion 81 82 on the big green Kawas, he did race other makes after that, but we'll stick with the Kawa history.

Most of Saturday was spent on or around the Z1oc stand, catching up with people, answering questions, selling some club merchandise and just enjoying myself... even met Eddie when he came over to sign the tank on Fers Lawson (real) rep

Sunday was more of a day spent looking at interesting bikes (race bikes and flattrackers )and taking loads of pics. Non Kawa bike I liked most was the HD XR 750 belonging to Steve from Red Max Speed shop

And by no means last, the best part of the shop was winning the best bike on the Z1oc stand as voted by the members

this should be a link (copy and paste) to a slide show of the weekend http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b297/Haggi/Stafford%20Oct%2010/?albumview=slideshow

Was hoping to get this blog going a few months ago, but as you know theres always something pops up to take your time. In this case it was one of my bikes that I had to have ready for the Classic Mechanics show at Stafford, it was booked on the Z1oc stand. Am glad to say that after all the hard work it was finished on time and was looking great. The bike is based on an AMA Superbike from the late 70s, its a Kawasaki Z1000A1 and was sponsored by a company call Racecrafters. There were a couple of bikes raced under their banner, this is a copy of No 31 as raced by Harry Klinzmann. There is a whole story to how I came about doing this bike which I'll post at another time.
